Starting a company is not a piece of cake and there will be a lot
of people telling you that it is impossible or you're not capable of
starting a startup. The only thing that it takes to start a company is
an IDEA. That is the root cause of a lot of successful companies is an
idea. It can take you to heights and make you taste success or it can
destroy you career and land you in ruins but the thought of failure
should not scare your dreams. Just GO FOR IT, there will be hurdles in
between and some times big ones that you'll have no clue how to go
about, but then how can you sail a ship in the sea without being wrecked
by storms a few times? And in the end you'll see, it's worth all of
that hard work.
While many people are happy with a decent wage and some job security,
those with an insatiable sense of ambition will
usually end up taking the entrepreneurship route.
Perhaps this inspiring list of world-wide brands with surprisingly humble beginnings will give you that little boost you need to stop dreaming and start making your entrepreneurial dreams a reality.
THE BODY SHOP
Founded by Anita Roddick in 1976 simply to create a livelihood for herself and her two daughters, while her husband, Gordon, was trekking across the Americas, she had no training or experience and her only business acumen was Gordon’s advice to take sales of £300 a week. Nobody talks of entrepreneurship as survival, but that's exactly what it is and what nurtures creative thinking. Running that first shop taught her that business is not financial science, it’s about trading: buying and selling. It’s about creating a product or service so good that people will pay for it. Now 30 years on, The Body Shop is a multi local business with over 2.045 stores serving over 77 million customers in 51 different markets in 25 different languages and across 12 time zones. And she says "I haven’t a clue how we got here!"
SUBWAY
At 17, Fred DeLuca used a family friend's $1,000 investment to open a
sandwich shop in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Today, Subway has more
locations worldwide than its nearest rival, McDonald's. He says " I'll tell you why I think that is. Maybe it's a little like if we were
going to take a cross-country trip. We get in the car, and we know we're
3,000 miles away, and then 2,000 miles away, and then 1,000 miles away.
You know where you are, and when you're five miles out, you're not
horribly excited. When you get there, you say, Hey, great, we're
here--but it's like you saw it coming. I think the fact that you could
see it coming for a long time makes it a lot different from suddenly
winning the lottery. It was gratifying, but it wasn't one of those
occasions that called for jumping up and down. At least not for me."
HARLEY DAVIDSON
Harley and the Davidson brothers began racing motorcycles because they loved being atop their own creations and proving that they were the best. But, in doing so, the savvy entrepreneurs also saw the opportunity to raise their visibility and build a solid and reliable corporate reputation.
The Harley-Davidson story is not just a story of success in the early part of the century. With 2005 annual growth standing at 6.6 percent, and income growth at 7.8 percent, the Harley-Davidson Motor Co. remains an industry leader. Hundreds of thousands of motorcycle fans continue to embody the passion for their machines as once did William Harley and the Davidson brothers. Today, the company is as much known for its bikes as it is for the loyal cyclists that sit atop them, which speaks volumes to the legacy that the four original Harley-Davidson entrepreneurs left behind them.
DOMINO'S PIZZA

The first Dominos Pizza opened in 1960 in the State of Michigan. In order to meet the needs of its customers, the students of the University of Michigan, its creator decided to deliver the pizza pies to residences.
Today, Dominos Pizza, world leader in the delivery of pizza to residences with more than 9 million pizza pies delivered each week throughout the world, is an international chain present in 55 countries and which counts more than 9,000 sales outlets. Its world turnover in 2009 amounted to 1.4 billion dollars, for a benefit after taxes of 79.74 million dollars.
